Take a closer look at postgraduate project - The Journey Home
Over the past few weeks, our postgraduate students have been showcasing their incredible work. From interactive dining experiences and innovative lighting projects to short horror films produced in the virtual production studio, the creativity and technical skill on display have been truly impressive. Staff from ALT, fellow students, and even crew members from visiting productions have all enjoyed the opportunity to engage with and be immersed in the students' projects.
One standout piece was The Journey Home, an immersive exhibition exploring the emotional impact of receiving difficult news.

Postgrad Spotlight: The Journey Home
The Journey Home is an immersive exhibition piece that captures the tunnel vision often experienced after receiving difficult news. Integrating sound, light, video, and scenic design, the work invites reflection and connection, offering a quiet celebration of community and resilience.
At its heart, the project is about overcoming hardship. Real stories were gathered from local community groups, who shared accounts of tough days and how they overcame them, alongside poems, quotes, artwork and advice. These contributions were handwritten onto living room furniture, creating a tactile space filled with lived experience. A magazine placed on the table further invites visitors into these shared narratives.
The video component portrays faceless figures journeying home after receiving bad news. The soundscape layers a vocal harmony over ambient noise (chatter, traffic etc) and a white noise 'hum', to create a numbing effect. Meanwhile, lighting cycles through the phases of a day.
